Bernadette Pinetta

Bernardette is a current undergraduate student majoring in Political Science and minoring in Education. Her research interests focus on educational equity pertaining to early academic experiences of Latina/o students, disproportionate sanctioning, and the school to prison pipeline. Her interest in educational equity is due to the stark contrast in resources and college culture within different educational spaces related to race, gender, or socioeconomic status of the student population. Currently, she is a McNair Scholar working with Dr. Carola Suárez-Orozco. Her research focuses on the relationship between negative classroom teacher and student interactions as it relates to disproportionate sanctioning. She hopes to continue in academia and pursue a Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in Public Policy or Latina/o studies.
